Gates Belt Tension Testers
Tension testers can be used to check the tension of both Synchronous belts and V-belts.
With Gates' Sonic Tension Tester, you can easily get a consistent and accurate tension reading.
The Sonic Tension Tester works by analysing the sound waves produced when the Belt is vibrated. A belt vibrates at a certain frequency, determined by its tension, mass and strand length. The tensiometer translates this frequency into a tension value.
How do I use a sonic tensiometer for driving belts?
Compact, lightweight and easy to use
- Important warning: always switch off the transmission before using the 508C tensiometer.
- Using the numeric keypad, enter the weight per unit length of the Belt (supplied with the user manual), the width and the length of the strand.
- Bring the small sensor close to the strand and lightly tap the belt to make it vibrate.
- Press the "Measure" button. The computer measures the frequency by means of the variations in sound pressure produced by the Belt and calculates the tension. The tension value is displayed in Newtons. The results can also be displayed in Hertz.
This compact monitor fits in the palm of your hand. Battery-powered, it comes with a flexible sensor.
1 sound sensor or 1 inductive sensor can be used.
